Energy Star Rebate Program for Your Business

The energy rebate program at White River Valley Electric Cooperative (WRVEC) encourages members to purchase Energy Star appliances to lower your overall energy consumption. Energy Star is a government backed program that rates appliances on their energy efficiency. In 2008, the use of Energy Star approved appliances saved enough energy to curb greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 29 billion cars. As an added bonus, Americans saved $19 billion dollars on their utility bills.

Energy Star Rebate Program

WRVEC encourages you to save money and conserve energy. If you’re looking into cutting the cost of your electric bill and need to replace appliances, make use of our rebate program.

Appliance Rebates

• For electric water heaters, the rebate will only apply for the replacement of an existing electric unit with an efficiency rating of less than .9 for a new higher efficient unit. The efficiency rating of the replacement unit must be a minimum of .9.
  * Tankless water heaters are not eligible for this program.
• For room air conditioning units, the rebate will apply for the purchase of a new Energy Star unit or for the replacement of an existing unit with a new Energy Star unit.
• For clothes washers and dishwashers, the rebate will apply for the replacement of an existing unit with a new Energy Star unit and only if electric water heating is present.
  
• For refrigerators, the rebate will apply for the purchase of a new Energy Star unit or the replacement of an existing unit with a new Energy Star unit and member must show proof that the old unit is hauled away and disposed of properly.

Heating and Air Conditioning

• GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
  The rebate will apply for the following criteria:
  • Replacement of electric resistance heat
  • On new home construction
  • Retrofit of an existing propane or natural gas heating system
  • Replacement of existing ground source heat pump
  
  *WRVEC will not rebate Direct Expansion Systems
  

  * Electric backup heat will be allowed for ground source heat pump units. The following specs will be used for the sizing of the ground source heat pump.

  • A Manual J calculation must be done (remit a copy with rebate application) using a 70 degree design temperature as the extreme on the heating side. The electric backup heat must be separated from the ground source unit with a separate breaker and must be wired to only act as second stage supplemental heat on a two stage thermostat or as emergency heat. The distribution system should also determine if a minimum of R-38 insulation is present in the ceiling and a minimum of R-13 is present in the walls.The heat pump must be a minimum of 19.1 EER.
    
  • Maximum Rebate is 50 Tons for Commercial Members & 10 Tons for Residential Members.
    

  Ground Source Heat Pump Rebate Form

• DUAL FUEL HEAT PUMPS
  The rebate will apply for the following criteria:
  • Replacement of electric resistance heat
  • On new home construction
  • Retrofit of an existing propane or natural gas heating system
  • Replacement of an existing air source heat pump
  • Must use propane or natural gas as auxiliary and/or emergency heat source
  
  * The dual fuel heat pump must use a propane or natural gas system for supplemental heat. WRVEC recommends that a temperature setting of 25 degrees or the manufacturer/installer recommendation be used as the cut-in point for the supplemental heat to activate. The heat pump must be a 16.5 SEER Energy Star rated model and meet the federal efficiency standards.
  
  *Maximum Rebate is 50 Tons for Commercial Members & 10 Tons for Residential Members. 

  Dual Heat Pump Rebate Form

• AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
  The rebate will apply for the following criteria:
  • Replacement of propane or natural gas heating system
  • One new home construction
  • Retrofit of existing electric resistance heat
  • Replacement of an existing air source heat pump*

  * The air source heat pump must be a 16.5 SEER or higher Energy Star rated model and meet the federal efficiency standards. *Maximum rebate of 10 tons per meter on air source heat pumps

To qualify for the rebate program, you must be a member of WRVEC with an active account in our service territory and verify that the equipment being replaced meets the criteria for this program and is installed on an active account in our service territory. The structure in which the customer resides must be a permanent structure.

Cooperative members eligible for the rebates should fill out the appropriate form and submit it to WRVEC. The form should include all requested information. All transactions that are part of this program element are subject to follow-up audits by the WRVEC staff. Rebate forms and any questions should be forwarded to:
