Green Power
White River Valley Electric Cooperative (WRVEC) understands that the natural resources - such as coal - used to generate electricity are in limited supply. As the population increases, environmental considerations continue to play a greater role in energy consumption trends. To help prolong our supply of fossil fuels and preserve the environment for future generations, WRVEC is now offering a Renewable Energy Resources, or Green Power, program.
Renewable energy resources are derived from the following five sources: solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, or biomass such as nutshells and corn fiber. Energy derived from these sources are converted directly to heat or to electricity. It is considered “green” energy because it is in unlimited supply and is largely non-polluting.
Recently, there has been increased interest in renewable energy and concern for the environment. By taking this initial step to meet and encourage the growing demand for renewable energy we can help in preserving our natural resources and air quality.
Members may purchase electricity under the Renewable Energy Resources program in 100 kwh-blocks at a rate of $3.50 per block. You may purchase as many blocks as you wish under the program but members must make a 12-month commitment to participate in the program. This additional charge will be added to your normal monthly bill.
Facilities that use renewable resources to generate electricity are currently expensive to build and operate. Increased customer demand by people like you for renewable energy will lead to further development of renewable technologies.
You will not notice any difference in your electric service when you sign up for the renewable energy resources program. The renewable energy purchased by the members of WRVEC will be pooled with other participants from our Generation and Transmission Company. So while we cannot guarantee that those very electrons you purchased through the program will be the same ones that flow through your meter, we can guarantee that the amount you purchase will be delivered on our power grid. By choosing renewable energy, you are supporting the development of renewable energy sources.
This is a voluntary program. Only those members choosing to participate will pay the additional premium. If you would like to join the ranks of WRVEC members and other electric cooperative members in promoting the development and use of renewable energy just stop by or call your nearest WRVEC office at 1-800-879-4056.
